Game 97- PawSox 8, Chiefs 5

The Pawtucket Red Sox took the opener of their four game series with the Syracuse Chiefs, 8-5, last night at McCoy.

NOTES-  Red Sox pitcher Chris Carpenter joined the PawSox yesterday to begin a rehab stint.  He pitched one scoreless inning last night in his PawSox debut.

Mauro Gomez also returned to the club after being optioned last weekend to make room on the Red Sox roster for Clay Buchholz.  The hot-hitting Gomez returned where he left off, going 3 for 4 with two doubles, a homer, and two RBI.

Lefty Will Latimer also joined the PawSox from Portland.  INF Ryan Dent was sent back to Double A.

UP NEXT-  Game two of the series is tonight at 7:05p.m. Yunesky Maya (6-7, 3.68 ERA) starts for Syracuse.  Doug Mathis (6-6, 4.23 ERA) throws for the PawSox.
