PawSox DH Ryan Shealy belted a three-run home run in the top of the 11th inning to lead Pawtucket tro a 7-4 win last night over the Toledo Mud Hens at Fifth Third Field.
Shealy hammered a 3-2 pitch from Toledo reliever Jay Sborz deep over the left field fence to break up the 4-4 tie in the top of the eleventh. It was Shealy’s only hit of the night and 14th homer of the year. He had reached three other times in the game on walks.
Three of the the other four Pawtucket runs came via the long ball, with Lars Anderson (7), Jack Hannahan (1), and Dusty Brown hitting solo homers. Aaron Bates drove in the remaining Pawtucket run with an RBI single in the eighth that knotted the game at 4-4.
Brown and Josh Reddick had three hits each for the PawSox. Hannahan, Niuman Romero, and Bates added two hits each.
Kris Johnson got the start for Pawtucket and gave up three runs on three hits over 6 1/3 innings. He walked four, struck out two, and gave up one homer. Michael Bowden gave up a run in relief of Johnson. Dustin Richardson (3-0) picked up the win.
The PawSox salavaged a split of the four game series with Toledo and finished the road trip at 3-5. They now head home to begin a four game series with the Durham Bulls tonight (6:05 p.m.) at McCoy. Red Sox outfielder Jacoby Ellsbury is expected to make a rehab start for the PawSox. Virgil Vazquez (5-1, 4.44 ERA) pitches for Durham. Mark Holliman (0-2, 7.59 ERA) gets the ball for the PawSox.
