The Pawtucket Red Sox struggled on the mound and at the plate, falling to the Syracuse Chiefs last night 9-4 at Alliance bank Stadium. With the win the Chiefs took three of four games in the series.
PawSox starter Robert Coello labored in his second start for the PawSox. He gave up six runs (three earned) on five hits in 3 2/3 innings on the mound. He walked three and struck out three. Coello (1-1) also surrendered a two run homer to DH Jason Botts in the third inning.
Chad Paronto (one run) and Robert Manuel (two runs) did not fare any better on the mound in relief of Coello.
Botts was the offensive star of the night for the Chiefs, going 2 for 3 with 5 RBI’s.
The PawSox offense was primarily led by Aaron Bates, who went 2 for 4 with a 3-run homer. Lars Anderson also added two hits. Nuiman Romero had a double and a RBI.
The PawSox head back home to McCoy tonight (7:05 p.m.) to open up a four game series with the Scranton-Wilkes Barre Yankees. Tim Redding (2-3, 3.89 ERA) He’ll face Adam Mills (1-6, 4.25 ERA) for the PawSox.
NOTES: The Red Sox announced yesterday that they have activated IF Eric Patterson and have sent RP Fabio Castro back to the PawSox. Patterson was acquired from the A’s Sunday for minor league pitcher Fabian Williamson.
It is possible that PawSox catcher Gustavo Molina may be promoted to Boston with the injury over the weekend to Victor Martinez. The Sox have not decided whether Martinez will be placed on the disabled list with a broken left thumb
