The PawSox offense scored some runs early, then held off a ninth inning Rochester rally to beat the Red Wings, 7-6, last night at McCoy.
The PawSox held a 7-2 lead entering the ninth, but reliever TJ Large had trouble closing the door, giving up four runs in only 1/3 inning on the mound. Fernando Cabrera was forced to come in and get the final two outs of the game…and in the process earn his 22nd save of the season.
Chris Carter was the offensive star for Pawtucket, going two for three, including a three run homer, and driving in four runs. Jeff Natale had three hits while Sean Danielson had a double and drove in a run.
Enrique Gonzalez (8-11) put together a solid start and came away with the win. He gave up two runs on four hits over six innings. One run came on a solo home run by Rochester’s Matt Macri in the fifth. Gonzalez struck out three and did not walk a batter.
Jason Jones (5-11) took the loss for the Red Wings, yielding four runs on seven hits over five innings of work.
The two teams close out their two game series tonight (7:05pm). R.A. Dickey (1-1, 5.13 ERA) pitches for the Red Wings. He’ll be opposed by Billy Traber ( 7-7, 3.22 ERA) for the PawSox.
